Drabble A Day vol.38
Welp, no post last week. I had a bad plague and fell behind about four days, then decided to just take a break. So this volume's got some extra drabbles!
I've decided to prioritize my short story, though. I might be drabbling intermittently rather than regularly, so the next post will likely be delayed as well. I just realized how much story I have left to write and kind of panicked at the deadline since I don't know how long editing will take, and I have limited writing time.
5-23-13: Fever
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Justin Nanami
The last thing he he remembered was talking to J.J. on the phone. He must have lost the connection, because it had rung again…
Something poked into his mouth, and he grunted in protest.
“Relax, it’s just a thermometer.”
Chris forced open heavy eyes and saw J.J. leaning over him. His sluggish brain still managed to put two and two together; J.J. wouldn’t show it, but he must’ve been terrified when he’d suddenly gone silent on the phone.
Wiggling his arm out from under the covers, he reached for J.J.’s hand and squeezed. I’m sorry.
J.J. squeezed back. It’s okay.
5-24-13: Designs
Characters: Tavish Kerr, Yukio Katsukawa
The first time Tav kissed Yu, it was backstage after another show.
Yu had presented him with another custom-designed t-shirt, his apparent new hobby, and then he’d smiled. Tav couldn’t resist the quick peck on the cheek, the metal of his lip piercing gently pressing between them. Yu had turned an amazing shade of pink and could barely speak another word all night.
The second time came a few weeks later, after he’d finally convinced Yu to let him take him out to dinner. He’d remembered to take out the piercing; nothing got in the way this time.
5-25-13: Stray No More
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura)
Aki didn’t know why he was so drawn to the garden, or why he was more content to be there than outside its high walls.
Maybe it was the flowers. So soft and delicate, in so many different shades, all smelling of freshness and life. It was amazing to him that they were even present in a gang’s headquarters; the one he’d known before had only been cold concrete and metal bars.
It came to him one day that it was here he could let his guard down. After a lifetime of keeping it up, the peace was a wonder.
5-31-13: Muscle Memory
Characters: James Landon, Tavish Kerr
A lithe, lanky body. Long, flexible legs. Arms that could wind around his shoulders like ivy. Little points and rings of metal he could nibble and tug. Smooth, pale skin covered in ink—hard lines, flowing letters, vibrant colours. James remembered every one.
Tav’s band was on tour, their first since he’d met the drummer. He’d made sure to give Tav a sendoff he’d feel for days, but that was already a month ago. Phone calls and texts weren’t enough anymore.
Recalling what his lover felt like beneath him was a tease, but it was the closest he could get.
6-1-13: Gossip Fuel
Characters: Shayden Hashimoto, Nozomu Ito
Shay didn’t relish celebrity news, but it was inescapable for someone who was featured in it from time to time. He liked seeing famous people he admired, but inevitably there would be a torrid cheating scandal flooding the pages.
He hated the exploitation of heartbreak he knew all too well. He didn’t want to think about how much worse it’d be to have cameras documenting every painful moment of a messy breakup.
Sometimes it became too much, and he would go over to Nocchi and silently demand to be held. Thankfully, those were times his lover understood him without words.
6-2-13: Frenemies
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Ryo Maeda
Ryo was his best friend, but Chris couldn’t help thinking he’d hate to be on his enemy list. Not that Ryo kept an enemy list, but those who got on his bad side rarely recovered from it.
Even as friends, Ryo’s caustic nature led him to put his foot in his mouth all the time. Chris knew not to take it personally, but that was also his nature.
So why were they friends? It was simple. They both cared about each other, and would do anything for one another. Neither would ever abandon the other, even if everyone else did.
6-3-13: Eyes, Smoke, Magic (Part 1)
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Keiichiro Sasaki
The Chris from six months ago would’ve never believed he’d be doing what he did for a living now. He still got a bit flabbergasted whenever he thought about it.
It was Kei’s fault. His noodle-limbed friend had dragged him to the club to show him he really did just dance half naked, and no one ever touched him in his cage. Then he’d been dragged backstage, and somehow convinced to give it a whirl.
There were lots of practical reasons for doing it—good exercise, great money, control over his own sexuality. But mostly it was just fun.
6-4-13: Eyes, Smoke, Magic (Part 2)
Characters: Justin Nanami, Christopher Larkin
It was a round like any other. Justin was immune as ever to the energetic, sensuous bodies of the dancers; he was simply here to check in with the owner, to make sure he wasn’t doing anything his father would disapprove of.
Then he saw the new dancer.
Dressed in black vinyl and mesh, the man moved delicately but with an irresistible allure. Dark hair and eyes, plush lips teased by teeth and hands, and pants held up only by the ample curve of his ass.
He didn’t realize he was staring until their eyes met, and Justin was hooked.
6-5-13: More or Less
Characters: Daiki Ishizawa, Keiichiro Sasaki
Daiki pouted for days about the fruitless night trying to get into Kei’s pants, he couldn’t begrudge Kei for long. When he was in a good mood, he went back to see him and the other dancers.
They had another talk at the end of the night, and Daiki actually felt bad about being the one to do the rejecting this time. Kei was nice, and definitely sexy, but he didn’t want romance. He couldn’t do romance, and he didn’t have the patience Kei needed.
It was surprising, then, months later, when Kei actually kissed him—and he didn’t mind.
