Drabble A Day vol.11
Sooo many drabblesss... I was much better at writing every day this week. Actually, I don't think I had to double up a single day! WOO!
We're entering the sad months... hopefully that doesn't mean all my drabbles turn sad. >.> Actually I've noticed I tend to write happier things when I'm sad. So contrary.
9-28-12: Paying it Forward
Characters: Kenji Okuda
If asked, Kenji Okuda could easily say he had everything he wanted in life. He may not have been rich, but he did well enough. He had a wife he loved, two kids who didn’t raise too much hell, and his passion—his very own judo dojo.
It wasn’t dissatisfaction that had turned him into an unwitting foster parent; that had been simple opportunity.
Makoto was troubled, to put it gently, and he clearly trusted no one. But if there was one thing Kenji could recognize in others, it was himself. He would not abandon Makoto as everyone else had.
9-29-12: Unstuck
Characters: Christopher Larkin
A few weeks later he picked up a pen.
Ryo—
Thank you for the creme puffs, they’re my favourite. I hope things are going well for you now.
Take care,
Chris
It was short and on simple lined paper; in all honesty, he didn’t start out intending to send it. But Ryo’s Christmas note was still in his desk, and it had a return address…
Envelope formatted and stamped, he was about to fold the paper inside when he paused to reread the words he would be sending to his former tormentor. He scribbled a postscript.
P.S. — I forgive you.
9-30-12: Unglued
Characters: Ryo Maeda
Ryo had to read the return address five times before simply stomping over to his bemused roommate, who read the name aloud to him as demanded.
It really was from Christopher…
Leaving his roommate in uneasy discomfort and not giving a damn, he ran into his room and locked the door.
The creme puffs had been a risk, and not one he’d thought would yield any results; now he had a letter, a real letter, from the boy he couldn’t stop loving however he tried.
He read it, and read it again, and cried for the first time with joy.
10-1-12: Fears
Characters: Nozomu Ito
“What are you most afraid of?”
Nozomu’s lips curved up at the corners; this interview was for the October issue, he should have expected the Halloween tie-in. He was pensive for a moment and mostly for show, but in that moment flashed a slew of horrible things.
Snakes. Dying alone. Getting outed back in Japan. Getting kidnapped and murdered. Shayden finding him boring. Shayden not needing him. Shayden leaving him. Shayden loving somebody else…
He looked back at the interviewer and smiled. “Mummies.”
Everyone had a laugh, and the interviewer moved on; he was getting the hang of this.
10-2-12: Lunch Date
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura), Ford Wentham
“Aren’t you hot, wearing all that black?”
Aki didn’t know why it took him until that moment to realize that yes, his all-black wardrobe was terrible in heat. Hours and armfuls of clothes later, however, he was regretting answering honestly.
Just when he was about to throw down his bags and run, Ford stopped short in front of a restaurant and relieved him of them.
“Grab us a table, would you? I’ll put these in the car.”
Aki stared after him, turning slowly toward the double doors. He frowned. How did Ford always know just how to fix him?
10-3-12: Drive-by
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Alex MacKinzey
All Chris had wanted to do was get his car’s oil changed, and sure, maybe get another chance to stare at the object of his hopeless crush.
The noise made him jump, then suddenly his arm was on fire as hot lead ripped through it. He might have yelled in pain, but he couldn’t hear anything over the volley of bullets.
A heavy weight pinned and covered him behind a car. He recognized the arm tattoo immediately—it was Alex.
This certainly wasn’t how he’d envisioned getting close to Alex; but somehow, he’d never felt safer than he did now.
10-4-12: The Storm
Characters: Ford Wentham, Alliance Jinks
The tech room was quiet now, save for the hum of electronics. All movement on every screen had stopped.
Ford would’ve given anything to be able to just scream.
“Two more minutes...” He didn’t need to tell Allie; their resident hacker had just as much to lose. The raid would start soon, and all hell would break loose.
And they couldn’t be there with them. Makoto was a wise Boss, but sometimes Ford hated that he always did the right thing.
Allie was uncharacteristically silent. Ford gripped his small shoulder and reassured them both.
“They’ll come back.” They have to.
