Drabble A Day vol.40

So much for being back in the swing of things. Sorry for the dedness, my life's been depressing lately. Had a minor emergency that came with an astronomical ER bill that maybe I will have the balls to try and contest, plus I'm trying to get out of my crummy job. :/ Wish me luck!

Also, apologies, this is a shorter volume than usual, and much more boring as well. I do have more I've been working on, which I'll try and post either tomorrow or Friday.

8-15-13: Mental Block (Part 1)
Characters: Tomoki Yonemura

It felt so wrong to not have a single melody in his head, to be unable to so much as rhyme two lines in a chorus. Tomoki didn’t deal well with having writer’s block.

In a mood, he threw down his pencil and paper and left the house to try and clear his head. He’d always been able to sort out his feelings, to tell stories—his own or others’—through music. What was getting in the way now?

He sat somewhere to watch the scenery, hoping for an answer. Even that refused to come to him; he gave up.

8-16-13: Mental Block (Part 2)
Characters: Tomoki Yonemura

He wrote—not a song, but a journal entry. He wasn’t sure he could call it that when he was just putting whatever thought crossed his mind to paper.

It was a nonsensical, muddled mess, but it was freeing at the same time. He wasn’t fighting to put structure and order to feelings, or decrying something as being too trivial to keep. He paused when he realized what his pen had just written.

I miss him.

Hide’s face suddenly filled his mind. He wrote on.

His birthday’s this week… I didn’t even remember. Maybe he was trying to remind me.

8-17-13: Mental Block (Part 3)
Characters: Tomoki Yonemura

How like him to get in the way for attention…

It may have been rude to think, but it was the truth. Suddenly, Tomoki understood why his mind was blocked.

Somewhere along the line, he’d put Hide on a pedestal. The song he’d written for him after his death no longer applied—without noticing, he’d managed to move past the tragedy. No wonder he’d stopped performing it at lives.

That was an idea, though… he could write Hide a new song. One that didn’t focus on a painful end—one that said just how he’d loved and hated one man.

8-18-13: Exchanging Words
Characters: Marcus Nanami, Ryo Maeda

Mark had officially had it with this puny brat.

Throughout dinner it’d been nothing but snark and sneers—which he’d doled out quite equally, of course. When they’d fallen back with coffees in hand to give JJ and Chris some time to chat alone, it’d grown into all out arguing and insults.

He’d come just to support his brother; JJ was doing well, at least. Now he just had to finish walking the asshole home and he’d be done.

They got to Ryo’s building just as their argument came to a head. They paused, then crushed into a heated kiss.

8-19-13: Solve For Y
Characters: Trevelyn Jones, Carter Valentine

Trev settled at his desk with a huff, glaring across the white, open room at the man he was assigned to assist.

Carter happened to look up. Trev immediately cleared his expression; the other man smiled and went back to work, leaving Trev sulking more than before.

The man was an idiot.

Of course, he was the idiot in love with that idiot, so he couldn’t cast stones. Still, why did he have to be so clueless?

He sighed, and took a few more sips of his tea. He really had to stop thinking about Carter before he was caffeinated.

8-20-13: Trade
Characters: Eddie Valentine

All Eddie had now was the inability to sleep.

It left him with dark circles under his eyes, a permanent prelude to a headache in his temples, and a surly demeanor (that may or may not have already been there). His energy levels were unpredictable, and he would lie awake for hours at night before finally catching a couple hours’ rest. But it was still preferable to the ceaseless hunger he’d felt before.

As long as he lived, he would never forget that burn, the ache, like the grinding of gears inside him. Sleep was a petty price for control.
