:O Ten volumes of these now!
I slipped a bit this week and missed a couple days in a row... a couple of times in a row. >.> That said, that is NOT the reason why there's kind of an accidental five-parter (counting the one from last week) in here. I don't know why I could just leave those two alone.
9-21-12: Long Shot (Part 2)
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura), Alex MacKinzey
Alex couldn’t even remember the last time he’d had a day off. If he weren’t spending it in the hospital, he might’ve owed the mystery man some thanks.
He’d spent enough time customizing that car to be able to recognize it even in the dark; he hadn’t been prepared for the shock of finding its owner passed out and blood-soaked just outside his shop door, though.
He was sleeping peacefully now, like he hadn’t just taken a bullet through the shoulder. Scars normally hidden behind an eye patch were bared, but only made Alex need to know him more.
9-22-12: Home Care
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura), Alex MacKinzey
“Here’s food, and no it’s not poisoned, if that’s what you’re wondering.” Alex set the tray of soup and buttered bread on his wounded charge’s lap and then gave him his space.
The man was so damn pretty it was approaching annoying; that perpetual pout didn’t help, either, and the sour suspicion in eyes that followed his every move was kind of adorable. Though he’d probably get killed for saying so.
Alex left him to his lunch, grateful he had awoken with enough energy to be grumpy. He had a long ways to go yet, but he wouldn’t give up.
9-23-12: Thoughts
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura)
Weakness wasn’t allowed. He was not made to be weak.
Being this seriously injured, though, there was no denying that that was exactly what he was. He was only alive because of his auto mechanic. The wound would have killed him; it should have.
But he was alive—and healing. And being cared for like an invalid. It was unbearable.
He found himself longing for the days when he was spared the burden of free thought, when he didn’t have to attempt to understand himself. Dying, he’d wanted only to survive; now, alive and useless, he mourned the missed opportunity.
9-24-12: Healing (Part 1)
Characters: Aki (Brandon Kimura), Alex MacKinzey
Early morning, breakfast. Midday, lunch. Evening, bath. Night, dinner. Sleep.
Every day like clockwork, Alex cared for him, thinking nothing of his anger and incapacity. Finally, Aki snapped.
“Why do you care so much?” he demanded.
Alex looked up from his tray, quietly and seriously. “Because I want you to get better.”
That wasn’t good enough. “But why?”
Alex looked into his eyes, even the blind one. “Because you’re more wounded than you understand… and I know part of you deep down wants to be healed, even if you don’t.”
Aki frowned and said nothing, too perplexed to be mad.
9-25-12: Language Barrier
Characters: Nozomu Ito, Tomoki Yonemura, Shayden Hashimoto
Nozomu didn’t really get moody, so it was easy to tell when he was out of sorts. He’d been unusually quiet for days during rehearsals, and one evening Yone held him back.
“Nocchi,” he implored, “talk to me. What’s wrong?”
Shay passed by just then, hurrying to meet up with whomever he was texting. His cheeks were flushed as he said quick goodbyes; Nozomu watched him leave, and couldn’t hide the melancholy on his face.
Yone observed it all and sighed. “You should tell him.”
Nozomu wanted to so badly, but couldn’t bear to put the band at risk now.
9-26-12: Living
Characters: Eddie Valentine, Ford Wentham
Gang life wasn’t so bad—not with this gang, anyway. And anything was better than the streets.
Still, Eddie missed Trev and Carter dearly. He kept their photo in his nightstand drawer, within reach but not on display. He kept them to himself.
The morning marking the fifth year since their deaths, he woke up early and pulled out the photograph. They were always smiling up at him now.
Ford stirred beside him, rolling over and cuddling close, but remained quiet.
“…Will you come with me this year?” Eddie had always gone alone.
Ford kissed his shoulder. “I’d be honoured.”
9-27-12: Cold Light
Characters: Eddie Valentine, Cillian Catherwood
Classes were finally over. Eddie made his escape, waiting in an empty classroom for the other students to head to dinner.
He sat on the windowsill he would climb out of once the sun went down, safely in shadow. This was the only time he got any measure of peace, the only time he felt semi normal and not at the mercy of his condition.
He wondered if he’d somehow made a friend today; he wondered what the mute boy would think if he knew what he was attempting to befriend. He wondered if Carter was thinking of him, too.
