Volume 17!! That is crazy!! And STILL no pirate drabbles! I should have done one on International Talk Like A Pirate Day... oh well.

This is totally gonna post after midnight, messing up my calendar. :| Too many Thanksgiving preparations, plus cleaning before winter really hits. Ah well. Thanksgiving food tomorrow!! Om nom nom.

11-15-12: The Right Mindset
Characters: Hinata Hanazaki, Eddie Valentine

They were heading into the holiday season full steam; Hana was ready for it.

Halloween had given them their first taste of the busy season, and it had been the busiest one yet. The fall line of chocolates and pastries were going quickly as Thanksgiving loomed, then everything would turn into a red, green, gold, minty winter wonderland for Christmas. January would be quiet. And then, the single busiest day of the year—Valentine’s Day.

He knew there would be terrible customers no matter how cheerful he was. He also knew Eddie would hunt down anyone who made him cry.

11-16-12: Love In Porn
Characters: Shayden Hashimoto, Ford Wentham

Even after he reached the point of being physically incapable of enjoying work, Shay still couldn’t bring himself to confess to Ford. It took another month of misery for him to finally surrender, no longer caring if he lost his job.

The day he’d decided to tell Ford how he felt, the other man was waiting for him by the door, looking serious.

“I need to talk to you, Shay.”

His heart dropped into his stomach, but Ford took him by the hand; suddenly everything was okay. Only when they were alone did Ford speak.

“Shayden… I… I love you.”

11-17-12: Bright Side of Night
Characters: Eddie Valentine, Carter Valentine

It was hard to see the good in anything that gave him and everyone else so much pain. Carter wisely never told Eddie to look on the bright side of his vampirism, just as he never stopped trying to find ways to help Eddie cope with it. When potions and science reached their limits, Carter helped him see things that weren’t so bad.

He was stronger and faster now than anyone; he was taken seriously at work; he only had to feed once a month; he had people who understood what he was dealing with.

Maybe he could handle this.

11-18-12: Camera Shy
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Alex MacKinzey

The sound of the camera shutter still gave him knots in the pit of his stomach, but he trusted Alex more than any other photographer in the world. He couldn’t regret limiting his work to him alone.

Alex had discovered him, had given him a career. It was all thanks to him that Chris had been able to get his own place and give his parents less time to worry about him. And when the unexpected and unwanted fame became too much, Alex didn’t even hate him for throwing it all away.

No wonder he’d fallen in love with him.

11-19-12: In the Cafe
Characters: Carter Valentine, Yukio Katsukawa

Cliche as it sounded, it had started with a coffee. Not quite in the usual way—this one had fallen into someone’s lap. Thankfully it had been iced.

“I-I’m s-so sorry…” Carter thought the pretty young man might cry, or pass out.

“It’s alright,” he said gently, taking the towel from delicate, shaking fingers to try and clean himself up. It was no use; he had coffee-flavoured underwear.

He came back after a change of clothes to make sure the man—Yukio, his name tag had said—was alright. They’d already done coffee; maybe dinner was next.

11-20-12: Crumbling
Characters: Shayden Hashimoto, Tomoki Yonemura, Nozomu Ito

Shay didn’t need Tomoki to say how important this new band was. He had been there through the death of their previous band, he knew what this meant to Tomo. Shay just wanted to play more than anything, and he would do anything to make it work this time around.

Nozomu was the key; just watching him play made everything feel right. He looked like he had been born with a guitar in his hands.

The day Shay realized why he loved watching Nocchi, he spent the night sobbing. After all this, he would be the one to ruin everything.

11-21-12: Actions Speak Louder, Anyway
Characters: Eddie Valentine, Hinata Hanazaki

Eddie loved Hana with every single last bit of himself. Sometimes it hit him so hard and out of nowhere it left him breathless.

Hana never missed an opportunity to tell him he loved him. Eddie said it when he could; but so much of what he felt couldn’t be put into simple words, and more often than not he said nothing at all, just agonized over how to make Hana understand his feelings.

Then, one day, lying in bed enjoying the afterglow, Hana caught something in his eyes and smiled.

“I know,” he said, and kissed his clawed fingertips.
