Drabble A Day vol.42

Drabblesssss so late. Sorry. I had two days off in a row! It threw me off!
Okay so there will likely be another drabble break (did the last one ever really end?) since my goal is to write two new short stories for DS. Aaaand considering how much of my life he last one ate up, I am going to need all the time I can get. I am also currently trying to overhaul much of my life right now though, so who knows if both will even get written.
9-19-13: Student/Teacher
Characters: Alex MacKinzey, Tomoki Yonemura
Alex left the Dean’s office and sighed. Why slackers and troublemakers even bothered with college was beyond him.
Wanting to get back to his office quickly, he cut through a courtyard and went through the back of the south wing. As he neared the end of the hall, music drifted to him—a soft piano ballad.
Curious, he peeked into the band room and was surprised to find a student at the bench, the only person inside. He was talented, strikingly beautiful, and impossible to look away from.
Embarrassed by his thoughts, he hastened away, music lingering in his ears.
9-20-13: Sidelong Romance
Characters: Nozomu Ito, Shayden Hashimoto
When Nozomu first lays eyes on Shay, he’s intimidated by his beauty and intensity. It’s a wonder he manages to calm down enough to perform for the audition.
The intensity shifts eventually, but the beauty only seems to grow.
It still takes a couple of years for Nozomu to figure out why he keeps looking at Shay, and why it hurts to see him run off toward more heartache. Tomoki actually has to pull him aside to tell him to stop being stupid and ask him out.
But he just can’t do it. Bravery was never his area of expertise.
9-21-13: Awakening
Characters: Brandon Kimura
It takes a few years of exposure to the outside world, and to normal people, for Aki to be capable of letting his mind wander.
It starts when he overhears a perfectly everyday conversation outside a cafe as he walks past. It’s certainly nothing he hasn’t heard before—”Can you pass the salt?” “Sure.” “Thanks.”—but it suddenly strikes him that it’s not an exchange he’s ever had.
And he wonders if he ever will.
Things look different to him after that; instead of simply passing through the scenery, he wonders what it’d be like to be part of it.
9-22-13: Pills
Characters: Yukio Katsukawa
He carries the bottle with him for months. He can hear it rattling in his bag, a quiet plea for someone to notice.
No one even spares him a second glance. No one hears it.
He almost wants her to go through his bag and find it. Maybe then she’d be angry enough to kill him. It would hurt, but he could take pain. He had for this long; it would be a blessing at this point if it got worse, if that meant it would finally end.
But deep down he knows the truth:
She’ll never let him go.
9-23-13: Routine Kindness
Characters: Hudson Cooper, Thierry Orøkia
The family-owned bakery around the corner makes amazing coffee.
Hudson only knows because Thierry keeps buying it for him. He’s not sure what makes the stuttering man from his therapy group continue to show him kindness, but it gets to him eventually. Maybe Thierry knew it would.
He just doesn’t know how to tell Thierry that his stupid coffee-and-pastry regimen means so much more to him than it should, or if he should tell him at all. He has a feeling Thierry already knows on some level—he smiles at him whenever he takes the coffee now.
9-24-13: Eternal and New
Characters: Tavish Kerr, Yukio Katsukawa
He was young by vampire standards, but Tav had already seen a lot as a human. Now that he had eternity ahead of him, he devoured every experience he could.
The problem now was that it seemed like nothing could surprise him any longer.
It wasn’t until his father died—fully knowing what his only son had become—that Tav began to feel jaded. He could people-watch for hours and not come across anything new.
Then one night, a dark-haired youth offered himself to him. That wasn’t new; but there was something amazing about him. He smelled pregnant.
9-25-13: Point of No Return
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Justin Nanami
It was hard to look straight into the mirror once he was fully costumed. He couldn’t stop blushing. Why was he doing this again?
Right—he’d just been spending too much time around Yu, who had gone gaga over the idea of his and JJ’s costumes matching and kindly purchased everything for him.
Still… hadn’t he wanted to try completely abandoning his comfort zone? He finally looked at himself in the mirror and flushed.
The white dress, the long brown wig, the red lips—he really did look like Christine. He hoped JJ felt a bit better as his Phantom.
