Drabble A Day vol.4

Wooo I've been doing this for a month! Ish. Dates are weird like that.
This week is kind of a sad batch, ngl. I have no excuses this time, so, sorry. I also wrote too much Chris and Eddie this week, and I have no idea why. There are completely different Eddie-verses in here, so be warned!
8-10-12: Upside Down
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Ryo Maeda
Chris didn’t normally have trouble sleeping, but tonight it was just impossible to shut down. He had read his book—twice as much as usual!—and turned down the lights, and even had soft music playing just loud enough for him to hear.
But his mind was reeling, still in overdrive.
I like you, Ryo had said. Ryo, the boy a year older who had been one of his most proficient bullies. That alone had felt like he’d taken a brick to the head; but the words after, his addendum, were what kept him from sleep now.
I love you…
8-11-12: Sick Day
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Keiichiro Sasaki
The bed was a warm cocoon, his soft pajamas another layer of comfort against the world outside that seemed to want him to suffer.
He felt the tickle in his nose with dismay, and a moment later his cocoon of safety was disrupted by a dizzying sneeze. He flopped back onto his pillows with a groan of misery.
A soft knock sounded and the door opened at his stuffy grunt. His best friend entered his den of cough syrup and kleenex, and brought the goodness of the world with him.
“Chris-kun! I brought you chicken soup,” Kei said, smiling.
8-12-12: Body and Soul
Characters: Eddie Valentine
Dreams don’t come true. Eddie didn’t need anyone telling him otherwise—his life was a testament to the hard truth.
His brother had had a chance; Carter had found love in his best friend, and they had even begun a life together, and had wanted to keep Eddie along for the ride.
One drunk driver later, and Eddie was alone. He was this.
He looked away from the mirror in disgust. He hoped Carter couldn’t see what he had to do to survive now, what he let them film him doing.
For him, there wasn’t any room left for dreams.
8-13-12: Keep On
Characters: Eddie Valentine, Hinata Hanazaki
Hana held in his sigh until they were on their way to the park nearby. Once Carter’s apartment was a few blocks behind them, Eddie let Hana thread their arms together, and echoed his sigh.
“When will your brother stop hating me?” Hana finally asked, dropping heavily onto a park bench.
Eddie eased himself down beside him. “Probably when you stop trying to get into my pants.”
Hana grinned and played with Eddie’s clawed hand. “And when should we tell him it’s too late for that?”
Eddie glared but didn’t discourage the touch, answering bluntly. “When he stops hating you.”
8-14-12: Bully (Part 1)
Characters: Christopher Larkin, Ryo Maeda
Chris wasn’t sure what compelled him to keep trying to live up to Ryo’s expectations—in the end, he was just another bully. But the older boy’s snarky voice was in his head even when Ryo was nowhere near him, and it never failed to remind him just how pathetic he was.
Something changed when he turned fourteen. It could have been the years wearing on him, or something to do with puberty; he just couldn’t do it anymore. He gave up.
He expected Ryo to be pleased, or at least amused. But for some reason, Ryo just looked heartbroken.
8-15-12: Bully (Part 2)
Characters: Ryo Maeda, Christopher Larkin
He didn’t know why he did it—he didn’t understand for a long time why he just couldn’t leave Christopher Larkin alone. And when he finally did, he was too afraid to stop.
How could he explain to the boy he spent his childhood verbally berating that it was his misguided attempt at making him stronger? That he couldn’t leave him alone because he had to know Chris was still okay?
Ryo realized the gravity of his mistake the day Chris stopped fighting back. He saw his barb sink unhindered into Chris’ heart, and knew he had gone too far.
8-16-12: Shining On
Characters: Tomoki Yonemura
This was it; this was the moment he lived for, the one thing that made his struggles worth it.
He loved composing. He enjoyed the creative process, and the people he worked with through it.
He loved his fans. He read every bit of fanmail they sent, and treasured every gift, every word of encouragement, every story they shared about how his music had changed their lives.
But performing live on stage—that was when he truly felt alive. It was the only time he felt everything—and everyone—with him all at once, bound together by one shared sound.
