I might fail this month for the headcanon challenge. Too much real life going on at the moment. But there's something else to share instead--the Bugs and Hisses Free Fiction event over at the DSP blog!

I'm happy to say I got to be a contributor to this endeavor. I'm even happier to say I finally got to write my ghost story! So, if you're interested in a bit of spooky, supernatural, and sweet, check it out:

And wish me luck with my headcanon... I'm gonna need it.

Wow exactly two weeks later. :o

OMG I LEAVE TOMORROW AHHH GOTTA GET THIS POSTED AND STILL FINISH PACKING AND I DUNNO IF I WILL ACTUALLY SLEEP ON THIS FLIGHT FFJSKLFJSLSDHKJ!!

I do not travel well. >.> But I sure pack a lot of stuff. *hurries*

I feel like I finished this earlier than I did... maybe because it's not as late as it could be? >.>

Couple notes:
1. Technically if these two are together it's because they're both gangsters (as opposed to just one), but this is AU-central and I DO WHAT I WANT, and
2. I am not the one responsible for naming a certain mute character. >.> *cough*

(I finally made her post first, WAH HA HAAAA. Even though I still had to upload the damn pic for her first. SHEESH.)

It's basically the last day of August, but let me tell you, it was struggle enough to get this thing thought up, let alone written down. I don't know why I always forget that I can force ideas out if I just start typing away, but it's a nice thing to be reminded of.

August is even later than July was! By like a day, but still.

Well, August is my birthday month, so traditionally I put my favourite things/people (or break my theme rules) on my calendar page for August. So this is actually not an AU pairing, but full canon, and as such the rule for the scene duels changed a little bit. Same couple, but it can't take place in their canon universe (hence why they're both on guitars in the pic but will not be in the stories >.>).

Also, this is kind of tragic but apparently I've never written about these two before here. Which is really astounding, because they're definitely up there for some of my favourite characters.

Also also, I finally did a happier one! Well, less sad, at least. I think. Anyway.

Down to the wire with this one! I was TRYING to get [personal profile] comma_chameleon to post first for once, even though she apparently needs to poach all my calendar pics EVEN THOUGH I did give them all to her before, but she's even more delayed than I am so never mind.

Also, I really need to start writing happier scenes.

If nothing else this will get me to post here semi-regularly. At least until 2016. >.>

Lot of RL stuff going on, otherwise this would have happened sooner, but it's still well before the end of June (if you go by hours) so it's okay! [personal profile] comma_chameleon and I reached a sort of agreement (bit grudging on my part) to do the backlog in chronological order, hence we now have the January entry.

It wasn't intentional but apparently my theme for the month was "giving in". And starting with dialogue.

*blows dust off; coughs*

Where the hell have I been? Well, burnt out, overburdened at work, and getting through a very tough winter and spring. I'm not sure if things are truly looking up for 2015 yet, but let's hope so.

With all the changes, my project goals have gone through some revamping too. But I recently learned that telling your goals to others makes you less likely to achieve them, so I won't say any more about that.

Let me tell you about my wall calendar instead.

Every year I make my own on snapfish.com. It started after the Harry Potter movies ended and I didn't have anything fresh to put on my wall each year. Each year has a theme, and recent years the themes have centered around the cast of characters created by me and [personal profile] comma_chameleon, or rather the real life people who inspire the looks of the characters (since it is about pictures, after all). This year's calendar is AU pairings, and I also happened to send one off to her as well.

I was looking at my calendar this month and couldn't get a scene between the characters out of my head. I decided to write it. Then I decided to try writing a scene for each month's pairing. Then [personal profile] comma_chameleon decided we should challenge each other to a headcanon scene duel for the pairings.

SO IT'S ON.

I dunno if we're winning anything because how can we win at this, but it should be fun at least.

Rules are:
-1 scene only
-Must be 200-850 words

Let the games begin. )

This has been a very exciting week!

On Tuesday the 21st the people over at DSP actually let me take over their twitter for two whole hours. It started right as Game 1 of the World Series did, sooo things got a little orange and black. >.> #sorrynotsorry as they say. But it was a lot of fun, and my boys the SF Giants took the win that night! Maybe I'll start hosting random Q&A sessions and picspams on my own twitter.

I've been getting prepped for November, or as you should know it, National Novel Writing Month. I'm using it a bit differently though, to knock out one short story and at least get started on another. I hope to finish both by the end of the year so I can dedicate the beginning of 2015 to finishing my first full length novel. We'll see how that goes.

Also, my BFF and partner in crime [personal profile] comma_chameleon just got her first contract! Super excited for her. :D

And of course, it's almost Halloween! I ordered a custom costume but due to a delay in production I don't think it'll actually get here in time. :/ Well, costuming is an old hobby of mine, so I'm sure I can pull something else together if needed. I finally have somewhere to wear a costume, I am not going to waste the opportunity.

Hope you are all enjoying Puncture Wounds, because I've enjoyed talking about it everywhere. :)

James is at the end of a long crusade for vengeance against the vampire clan that destroyed everything he held dear. He has Ren, the final and most dangerous of them all, cornered at last in London. But victory remains just out of reach when Ren sets a feral vampire on James and makes his escape. With no other leads, James is forced to take in the feral until he can use its connection to its sire to track down Ren. But in caring for the vampire, James sees they might not all be the monsters he thought them to be. Faced with an ugly truth, his quest for revenge becomes a war for retribution, and the discovery of what it truly means to be human.

Read on for an excerpt and links to some exclusive sneak peeks into the story, and take a gander at my new author bio down below:

James fumbled to regain control, and it took a second to realize that it wasn’t teeth he felt now—it was a soft and damp tongue. The almost constant rumbling from deep in the creature’s chest had morphed at some point, from warning growls to what sounded suspiciously like a purr. James felt his skin crawl and tore himself away, stumbling a bit when he stood too fast.

He was reeling. Everything from the past twenty-four hours suddenly came crashing down around him at once. In so short a time, he’d had the last of his sworn enemies in the palm of his hand, let him escape, and brought a feral monster into his own house. And he’d fed it.

James fumbled his way into the kitchen, eying the sink as he felt his stomach threaten to heave. He pushed himself to the fridge, grabbing a nutrition drink and forcing its contents down his throat along with the bile. He reminded himself that he needed it to help his blood recover, and this was all according to plan—take in the feral and get it sane enough to track the one who’d made it.

He braced himself against the counter with both arms, repeating the plan in his head until the moment passed.

He was too busy to notice at first, but something was wrong—nothing hurt. He looked back down at his arm.

It had completely healed.

It's dark at six o'clock and people won't shut up about pumpkin spice lattes.

Happy fall!

So it occurred to me that I forgot to compile the answers to the scavenger hunt and the secret blog posts they were found in. Then it occurred to me that I forgot to write about YaoiCon! To be fair I was on vacation until the 20th, so I am just getting back into the swing of things. Let's catch up.

Warning, silly blog posts up ahead!

Scavenger Hunt Revealed )

As far as YaoiCon went, let me preface by saying I haven't been to a convention of any sort since Fanime 2008. Oh, that was a fantastic year. While I was only able to go to YC for one day, it brought back tons of amazing memories. The fun of cosplay, the living memes, the aching of empty wallets after a few turns through the dealer room. And I am proud to say I was part of it like never before!

I handed out Nutella fudge sea salt cookies in cute bags hand stamped by yours truly. I wish I had thought to take pictures of them. Altogether we gave out 100 cookies and 40 chocolates, with ten free print copies each of Half Past Forever and Foxes Over Flowers, and three grand prizes of Puncture Wounds! We also made some new friends over at the Sublime table and with a couple of Velmas. My cookie-craving, yaoi-loving people, I will be back next year! ♥

That brings me to my final topic for tonight...

PUNCTURE WOUNDS has its official release date!

You can preorder now, and it's available October 15th. So exciting. :3

Alright, that's it from me for now. Look forward to some new things over the next year.

Americana Fairy Tale
(Fairy Tales of the Open Road #1)
by
Lex Chase

Blurb:

Modern fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: He’s a guy. Two: His perfect brother Atticus is the reincarnation of Snow White. Three: Taylor has no idea which princess he is supposed to be. Four: Taylor just left his prince (a girl) at the altar. Despite his enchanted lineage, Taylor is desperate to find his Happily Ever After away from magic, witches, and stuffy traditions. Regrettably, destiny has other plans for him. Dammit.

When word reaches Taylor that Idi the Witchking has captured Atticus, Taylor is determined to save his brother. He enlists the help of rakish and insufferable Corentin Devereaux, likewise of enchanted lineage. A malicious spell sends Taylor and Corentin on a road trip through the kitschy nostalgia of roadside Americana. To save Atticus, they must solve the puzzles put forth by Idi the Witchking. As they struggle, Taylor and Corentin’s volatile partnership sparks a flash of something more. But princesses have many enemies, and Taylor must keep his wits about him because there’s nothing worse than losing your heart… or your head.

That's a wrap on the Birthday Bash, winners will be announced and contacted within the week!

I had a delicious birthday dinner at Izakaya Ginji and finally--FINALLY--understood how sashimi was meant to be. One bite of fresh yellowtail sliced and served to perfection was all it took. Unicorns cried sweet rainbow tears of joy, and a chorus of songbirds carried us up to the heavens. Yes, I tasted divinity that night, and I washed it down with a double shochu-calpico cocktail. Be careful with those, kids, they don't feel like they're doing anything till you stand up.

In other news, I stopped over at ZAM's Sunday Brunch again this weekend. Fittingly, the theme was about desserts. Read on to find out: Are you a pie, tart, cake or trifle?

Warning, will make you hungry.
